Booking Enquiries and Intake Process

HOW WE WORK TOGETHER

It takes courage to reach out for support - we're glad you're here.

Choosing the right therapist and practice is an important part of the therapeutic process. We believe that being clear about how we work helps clients make informed decisions about their care. The information below and throughout our website outlines the scope of our services and helps you determine whether our practice is the right fit for your needs.

Before We Begin

SERVICE LIMITATIONS

As a small, private practice, we're committed to providing personalised, thoughtful care. There are some services and levels of support that fall outside the scope of our care. Being clear about these limitations helps us provide safe, appropriate, and effective treatment for our clients.

Please note that we do not provide:

  • appointments solely for the purpose of providing letters, reports, or forms, and we do not provide medico-legal reports or medical certificates.

  • diagnostic assessments.

  • urgent, crisis, or emergency appointments. If you require immediate support or acute care, please seek support from appropriate crisis or emergency services to ensure you receive the level of support required. We welcome enquiry for ongoing psychological support once your immediate care needs have been met.

  • bulk-billing, low-cost services, or third party invoicing. Clients are required to pay in full for sessions at the time of their appointment.

  • couples or family therapy. We provide individual therapy to adults and adolescents aged 14 years and over.

  • therapy services to clients under the age of 14. Younger individuals are best supported by therapists specifically trained in child development and child mental health.

DUAL RELATIONSHIPS

To maintain ethical boundaries, our therapists don't see clients who are known to each other (e.g. family, partners, friends). This helps preserve confidentiality and objectivity. Our intake team are happy to discuss booking options with other therapists at our practice. For more information, please see our booking FAQ's on this page.

CONFIDENTIALITY AND READINESS TO BEGIN

To respect confidentiality and begin the therapeutic relationship directly and respectfully, we ask that all booking enquiries come from the person seeking support (unless under the care of a parent or carer). While we understand the desire of loved ones to assist, this approach supports autonomy and readiness for the process ahead.

Our DBT program is now closed

After 8 years of delivering our Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) program and achieving strong outcomes for many clients, our DBT program has closed as we move in a different clinical direction aligned with our team’s evolving areas of focus and expertise. Importantly, we continue to work extensively with clients presenting with emotion regulation difficulties, personality vulnerabilities, and complex presentations. We offer structured, evidence-based therapy tailored to individual client needs, including Schema Therapy and other targeted approaches.

Intake and Booking Process

Our Intake and Booking Process

Seeking support can feel like a big step, and we're committed to making the process as welcoming and straightforward as possible.

At The Glow Centre, we believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors in achieving meaningful outcomes. That's why we take the time to understand your needs before booking your first appointment. Our intake process is designed to ensure that you are matched with the psychologist best suited to your concerns, goals, preferences, and circumstances. We know that finding the right psychologist can make a significant difference to your experience of therapy, and we are passionate about helping each client start their journey with the strongest possible foundation.

Our experienced Intake Team takes a thoughtful and personalised approach to every enquiry. We will guide you through the process, answer your questions, and help determine whether our service is the right fit for your needs. If we don't believe we are the best service for you, we will be honest about that and, wherever possible provide alternative options for support.

Our goal is simple: to help every client access the right support, from the very beginning.

Step 1: Contact Us

Submit an enquiry, call us, or ask your doctor to send a referral.

Every referral and enquiry is reviewed carefully so that we can determine whether our service is well suited to your needs and ensure you receive the most appropriate support. Our Intake Team will usually contact you within 48 business hours (Monday to Thursday) to discuss your enquiry and available booking options.

Step 2: Intake Consultation

Once we receive your enquiry or referral, Melissa (Director) or Kelly (Practice Manager) will personally contact you for a brief conversation about what brings you to therapy and what you are hoping to achieve. This conversation helps us understand your needs, answer any questions you may have, and recommend the psychologist we believe is best placed to support you.

Step 3: Personalised Matching & Booking

While you are welcome to request a particular psychologist, our recommendations are based on extensive experience matchig clients with clinicians who's expertise, approach, and style are most likely to support positive outcomes. Matching is also based on other factors such as your presenting issues or symptoms, psychologist scope of practice and client age minimum, and aligning schedules. If we assess that our practice is not the best fit for your needs, we will be upfront with you, and aim to provide you with suggestions for alternative services that may be more suitable.

Step 4: Complete Our Client Intake and Informed Consent Agreement

Once your appointments have been booked, we'll send you a welcome email with access to our secure client portal. The portal allows you to complete all of your new client paperwork online. We ask that these forms be completed within 3 days of receiving your welcome email so that we can prepare for your care and ensure everything is in place before your first appointment.

The intake involves providing your contact and referral details, reviewing and accepting our informed consent agreement, adding your payment information, and completing a brief questionnaire about how you've been feeling. Completing these forms before your first appointment helps your psychologist prepare for your care and ensures your first session can focus on what matters most to you.

Tips for preparing for your first appointment

Your journey begins with the initial session, where you will meet your clinician. Together, you will discuss your concerns in detail and develop a tailored treatment plan to guide your therapy.

Here are a few things you can do to prepare for your first session:

Block out time before and after your session

Taking some time to reflect and focus before your session will help you get into a reflective space and get the most out of your session. Big emotions might be evoked during your session, so having time to calm down and recalibrate after your session, before going back to work/school/family life, is also important.

Think about what you want to achieve:

Perhaps write down your reasons for seeking help. Bring them along to your session.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions:

Your first session will probably involve your clinician asking lots of questions of you. It is equally important that you ask questions of us, to ensure you feel comfortable and confident going forward.

Check our location and parking:

To make arriving as seamless as possible, take a look at our Contact Us page for detailed location information and photos. We recommend arriving early to allow time to find a carpark (it can get busy sometimes).
